Pool water

UV is a well established and accepted method for treatment of pool water. From its early successes in high-load recreation pools and aqua parks it is now widely used for many other applications, from hydrotherapy pools and small-sized hotel spas to the largest Olympic-sized competition pools. This growth in popularity is largely due to UV's reliability, effectiveness, efficiency and ease of use.

To get the best effects with the lowest costs, it is advisable that pool operators use medium pressure UV lamps, such as MultiWave® lamps, which produce a broad output across a wide range of the UV spectrum. These lamps have been proven to destroy all three types of combined chlorines (chloramines), dissociating them into harmless ionic compounds. Chloramines are responsible for the typical 'chlorine smell' in indoor pools.

The lamps also cause the indirect reduction of trihalomethanes and , in addition, they are very effective at destroying any chlorine resistant microorganisms present in pool water, such as Cryptosporidium parvum.
